Student FAQs

Bayer successfully completed the acquisition of Monsanto in June 2018, bringing together Monsanto’s leadership in seeds and plant traits with Bayer’s leadership in chemical and biological crop protection. By joining forces, we will create even more extensive career opportunities for talent around the world. We’re a global team working to shape agriculture through breakthrough innovation that will benefit farmers, consumers, and our planet.

While we are now Bayer, we will continue to hire using separate career sites until we can integrate our career platforms. We invite candidates to explore career opportunities available at the combined company by visiting advancingtogether.com/careers.

The following Frequently Asked Questions are for candidates applying to student jobs posted on Monsanto’s career platform.

What’s the difference between an Intern, Co-op, and Trainee assignment ?
An Internship is a paid, full-time, summer assignment that typically begins in mid-May and ends in mid-August (alternative start/end dates are available for students attending a university with a trimester or quarterly academic system). A Co-op role is a paid, full-time, 6-month assignment during which students are not enrolled in university studies on a full-time basis. Co-op assignments are available in both the spring (January-June) and fall (June-December) semesters. A Trainee role is a paid, full-time 6-16 month training program for new graduates. After successful completion of the training program, you will become eligible for a full-time position in U.S. Row Crops Sales, Seed Production, Supply Chain, or Information Technology.

What are the Internship and Co-op Program’s basic requirements?
To qualify, students must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program at the Bachelors, Masters, or PhD level with an accredited college or University. We encourage students that meet the following qualifications to apply for positions that meet their career interests:
  • Current enrollment with a relevant BS, MS, or PhD program
  • The intention to return to academic studies following your Intern or Co-op assignment. (Those completing their degree prior to the start of an Intern or Co-op role are not eligible for the program and are instead encouraged to apply for full-time roles within our company.)
  • Good academic standing with your university (students currently on academic probation will not be considered). Most competitive candidates have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.
  • Willingness to relocate for the duration of the assignment (if necessary)
  • Willingness and ability to successfully pass all pre-employment screenings, drug test and background check
  • Additional requirements such as completion of specific coursework and/or previous work experience within a specific discipline may also be required. Such requirements are detailed within the individual position description and made available for review prior to submitting an application

Will I have to relocate?
Many of our Intern and Co-op roles do require relocation for the duration of the assignment. In these instances, relocation allowances are provided to students who qualify. Students interested in our Trainee program must be willing to relocate during and at the conclusion of their assignment.

Are Intern, Co-op, and Trainee roles paid?
Yes, all roles are paid positions.

Can I gain experience as a volunteer or unpaid team member?
Unfortunately, we are unable to host students on a voluntary or unpaid basis.

I applied to a position recently, but no longer see it posted online.
Once a position is filled, we remove it from view online. On occasion the decision may also be made to cancel a role.

What happens once I complete the program?
Students who deliver results will be rewarded. At the conclusion of your assignment, your Manager will make recommendations to our Talent Acquisition team about your potential as a full-time employee. High potential students who are eligible for hire will be offered full-time employment to vacant positions, invited to return for another Internship or Co-op assignment, be recommended for a Trainee role, or added to our prospect pool for future roles that may become available. Your Manager will discuss your achievements with you and your future with us so you know what to expect before returning to school.

What is the dress code?
We roll up our sleeves to deliver results and that often means wearing what fits your role. As an agriculture company, a large number of our employees dress in business casual. You will have the opportunity to discuss dress code with your Manager before you arrive so you know what your specific team’s expectations are.

U.S. Roles: When can I expect to hear back regarding my candidate status?
We focus our recruitment and interview efforts during the fall, visiting campuses across the United States. Our typical university recruiting season runs September through November, with the goal of extending all Intern, Co-op, and Trainee offers for the following year by the end of December. If you have submitted an application for a specific position (not simply uploaded a profile and resume for general consideration), you will hear back from us during this 3-month recruitment window. Please note that we do not typically recruit in the spring for Intern or Co-op roles.

U.S. Roles: When is the best time to apply?
Intern, Co-op, and Trainee roles are posted to jobs.monsanto.com/students and to select universities in August of the year prior to the start date. The best time to apply is August through September, with the understanding that you will be considered along with all who apply between then and November. Most offers are extended before the end of December for all positions starting in the following year.

U.S. Roles: If I am not a U.S. citizen, can I apply for a position?
We do give consideration to student applications from non-US citizens when the applicant is currently enrolled in a full-time degree program at the Bachelors, Masters, or PhD level with an accredited U.S. College or University.
