Monsanto’s Glyphosate Endangered Species Initiative

Monsanto is committed to environmental sustainability and rigorous product stewardship. As leaders in the stewardship of Roundup agricultural herbicides, Monsanto implemented a stewardship program called the Glyphosate Endangered Species Initiative. This initiative depends on Monsanto working in partnership with growers and applicators.

Roundup agricultural herbicides have a very favorable environmental profile and, for most growers, following existing use directions on the EPA-approved label will adequately address any potential plant threatened and endangered species (TES) concerns.  As a result, implementing this Roundup stewardship program will have a minimal impact on grower practices while meeting the important objective of protecting plant TES.

The program provides growers with a simple web-based tool (Pre-Serve) to identify areas where threatened or endangered plant species may exist near agriculture. The website prescribes best management practices that growers must implement with certain use patterns and application rates in these identified areas to minimize risks to these protected plant species. We are confident that this initiative will preserve threatened and endangered plants and their habitats, while protecting growers’ options to use Roundup herbicides on all agricultural lands.
