Product Stewardship Safety

Product Stewardship initiatives are designed to assure the safety and integrity of Monsanto’s products and the practices used to develop, produce and manage them.

We have established policies, guidelines and processes, and perform safety, environmental and market impact assessments, to steward our products through the product life cycle:

  • Pre-market stewardship includes project and technology program reviews, best practices, standard operating procedures, and quality control reviews all contributing to the assurance of food, feed and environmental product safety and quality.
  • Post-market stewardship focuses on ongoing research and product monitoring, meeting conditions of registration or regulatory approval, addressing any product safety questions, working with licensees, any other question or issue that might arise after product launch, and product discontinuation.

Our audit and compliance programs verify implementation of our stewardship processes over the complete product life cycle and validate effectiveness of the stewardship program.

Monsanto's global stewardship organization and systems include the key functional and business elements in the company.

We have expanded and integrated our global product stewardship efforts to support an increasing number of products around the world, including traits derived from biotechnology, chemical and biological crop protection products and other solutions for farmers. Our stewardship operations team and regional stewardship teams have adapted our stewardship processes to meet their local needs and requirements.

Stewardship is the shared responsibility of Monsanto and those who provide, handle and use our products, including our licensees, dealers and our customers. We want to ensure our products continue to be used properly. By following product life cycle stewardship processes, we stand behind our products from research and discovery to discontinuation and disposal.

Consistent with the Monsanto Pledge, product scientific and safety information is available here. Additional resources from Monsanto as well as third parties are available in these bibliographies.
