Genetically modified organisms (GMOs), can protect plants from pest damage, produce more food on less land and improve a crop’s nutritional quality. A wide range of safety assessments are conducted to ensure that they are as safe as foods from conventional crops.

Still, many consumers question the safety of GMOs. This article provides background information of GMOs along with their history of safe use. Author Dan Goldstein, medical doctor and toxicologist, provides his perspective as to why the public debate has drifted so far from the scientific realties of the technology behind these beneficial crops.
